While on the whole I enjoyed this episode of FlashForward, I did have mixed feelings about some parts of the episode, and the plausability of one particular aspect of Mark and Demetri in Hong Kong. There were also enough questions raised to keep people speculating during the mid season break.

After the last episode in which Bryce played a major role was my least favourite in the series so far I had relatively low expectations going into this episode. While I am still not that big a fan of Bryce I did however find Believe to be an enjoyable episode, even though there was not enough development in the main plot for my liking.

If the main theme of the previous episode “The Gift” was that the Future can be changed, then the main theme of Playing Cards with Coyotes is that the future may be more fixed then we would like to admit. This is even before we go into the new faction introduced and questions raised.

One of the big questions in FlashForward has been whether or not the future is fixed. In the bad House clone episode they had a chance to answer this question but failed. In The Gift however they answered it in a dramatic fashion that while in retrospect is obvious from the start of the episode but is still a shock when it actually comes.

After the drama of the previous episode, there was a danger that this episode would be a bit of a let down. Thankfully this was not the case and in many ways the title of the previous episode “Gimme Some Truth” could equally apply to the developments in Scary Monsters and Super Creeps. Unfortunately (for me) several of the developments in this episode also served to kill off some of my own pet theories about where the series was heading.
