Detailed Synopsis of the first episode of the third season of Ashes to Ashes

Slightly later than normal my thoughts on the second part of David Tenants final outing as The Doctor before handing over to Matt Smith (Detailed plot summary and Analysis in post)

The penultimate episode/special in many ways highlights some of the best and worst aspects of Russell T Davies time on Doctor Who, with it on one hand being a highly enjoyable fast paced episode with good character development and mysteries, but on the other having a plot with holes so big you could drive a truck through them and an strong element of Deus ex Machina.

After Planet of the Dead I went into this special not really expecting much, but thankfully ended up thinking that this was a really enjoyable episode whose main problem was that this really should have been the first special with the ending changed so that the Doctor did not realise the implications of what he had done.

The 5 day Torchwood event comes to a close with an episode that could also double as an end to Torchwood as a whole. While the resolution to the problem was not quite as “Deus ex Machina” as I feared it would be, I was still unconvinced by it however. Fortunately the drama of the episode more than made up for it, with an ending that is both heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time.
