After a slightly dissapointing episode last week, this episode is a welcome return to form even if it does feel like it is mainly filler material. Aside from the update on Alex’s health in the real world, this episode in many ways seems like a look at a standard day at the office for Alex and Gene.

On the BBC “Ashes to Ashes” site there are several ones with character information present, including one for Martin Summers which is in the form of his diary. As some of the information in the diary is new and throws light on his motivations and potential future plot twists I have decided to do an analysis of his “diary” to see what insights can be gleaned.

After last weeks superb episode, I was doubtful that this weeks would be as good and I was right, since for the most part I was not at all engaged with this episode as the main plot has been done before in both Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars, where the protagonist meet someone they were close to in the past and do there best to either change them or make sure they become the people they know in the future. On the plus side however we do finally get to meet “Doctor Death” face to face and have hints that he is involved in Operation Rose.
