Four episodes into the series and Occult Academy has firmly established itself as a dark comedy with a interesting take on aspects of the occult. In this latest episode we discover that Fumiaki is not the most reliable narrator and some (non-sexual) tension is added to his relationship with Maya.

With the main character introductions out of the way, it is now time for the story proper to begin with the first stop being the truth about the winged creature that killed Fumiaki’s predecessor.

The first episode of Occult Academy indicated that the series was likely to be a mixture of “horror” and comedy with the emphasis leaning towards horror. The second episode in contrast while having moments that are in keeping with the dark tone of the first episode has much more humour throughout the episode and this is evident from the start of the episode.

Time Travel – Check, Ghosts – Check, Humour – Check, Decapitations – Check?! While Occult Academy has many aspects of lighter comedy magic school based manga and anime, if the first episode is anything to go by this will be quite a dark and hopefully enjoyable series.
